Bulldogs Fall in Season Opener to Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. __ Freshman Cameron Alford and graduate transfer TJ Parham both scored 14 points to lead all Alabama A&M players, however Tennessee State overwhelmed the Bulldogs with a barrage of three-point shots to capture a 106-66 victory in the season opener Tuesday night at the Gentry Center.

After a tight game in the first few minutes, Tennessee State broke the game open with a barrage of 3-point shooting to go into the locker room up 64-29. The Bulldogs also had struggles taking care of the ball, totaling 14 turnovers that led to 32 Tennessee State points.

The Bulldogs had no answer for Tennessee State's hot hand from long range as the Tigers connected on 17 three-point baskets in 34 attempts.

Marshall led the way for Tennessee State with 22 points, hitting 6-for-11 from three and 8-for-13 from the field, while Wesley Harris added 15, and Shakem Johnson and Jon Brown both added 10. Six different Tennessee State players made at least one three-point shot.

  • Freshman Garrett Hicks and Cameron Tucker were the next highest scorers, with Hicks scoring nine to go with two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tucker added eight points along with three rebounds and three assists.

The Bulldogs will next face off against the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Monday, Nov. 11 at the Bartow Arena in Birmingham against the Conference USA opponent for the second consecutive year.
