Second Half Surge Not Enough to Defeat South Alabama

MOBILE __ A rough shooting night cost the Alabama A&M men's basketball team as they fell on the road to South Alabama, 89-79, in the Mitchell Center on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (2-7) found themselves down big in the first half, shooting a lowly 27.8 percent (10-for-36) from the field and 0-for-8 from behind the arc, while the Jaguars (6-4) shot 19-for-34 (55.9 percent) and made 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) of their three-pointers in the period to end the half with a 49-27 lead.

After finding themselves down by as much as 30 points early in the second half, the Bulldogs were able to cut into the lead multiple times in the final frame, getting it down to 10 over a stretch, however could not muster enough stops in a row to get it down within single digits.

Fellow freshmen Cameron Alford scored 13 with five rebounds, his eighth double-digit scoring output of the year, while forward Jalen Johnson also added 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.
