Baseball drops series opener at Auburn

AUBURN — Rankin Woley drove in a pair of runs as Auburn topped Alabama A&M 10-1 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game.

Jonathan Smith II crossed the plate in the top of the first inning to give Alabama A&M (0-5) a 1-0 lead, but it did not last long as Auburn scored one in the bottom half of the frame.

Auburn took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with a four-run rally, and the Tigers stretched the cushion to seven in the sixth with a three-run rally.

Smith, Stephan Soto and Trevor Berkmeyer each had a hit for Alabama A&M.

Four Auburn pitchers combined to hold Alabama A&M to three hits while striking out 17. Carson Skipper got the win, striking out eight while holding Alabama A&M to a pair of hits with no earned runs in a four-inning start.

Alabama A&M wraps up its series at Auburn today at 2 p.m.
