MONTGOMERY — Alabama A&M's tennis teams enjoyed a strong start to the weekend, with both the men and women's teams sweeping Mississippi Valley State in a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference matches in Montgomery.

The Alabama A&M men's team defeated Mississippi Valley 4-0, and the women's team finished with a 4-0 sweep.

In the men's event, Alabama A&M's Fermin Ruiz swept Jessie Bryant 2-0 (6-0, 6-0), while Rodrigo Arana-Rios defeated Milovan Topalovic 2-0 (6-0, 6-0). Cristian Biggott swept Kyle Harris 2-0 (6-0, 6-0).

In men's doubles, Biggott and Arana-Rios defeated Bryant and Jerrell Horner 6-0, while Shakir Elvin and Nishingan Nadaraja defeated Topalovic and Harris 6-0.

For the women's team, Alabama A&M's Beatriz Gutierrez swept Jailyn May 2-0 (6-0, 6-0), while Anita Bozhko defeated Kristi Cotton 2-0 (6-0, 6-0). India Woods defeated Ambra Stanley 2-0 (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles, Bozhko and Jasmine Boyd defeated May and Traci Carter 6-0, while Woods and Ayana Kawai Rengil defeated Cotton and Sienna Weeks 6-0.
