Prairie View holds off AAMU women's basketball

HUNTSVILLE — Artavia Ford poured in 26 points as Prairie View A&M held off Alabama A&M 72-69 Saturday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference women's basketball game.

Prairie View led the majority of the game, but never was able to build a comfortable cushion. The Panthers led 28-26 at halftime.

But in the second half, Alabama A&M (13-13) never was able to get over the hump.

Nigeria Jones led Alabama A&M with 15 points and four assists, while DeShwana Harper had 12 points and four rebounds. Elexis Evans finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points with 11 rebounds.

Shala Dobbins finished with 17 points for Prairie View, while La'Neique Nealey added 10 points.

Alabama A&M hosts Texas Southern on Monday in the Bulldogs' final home game of the season.
