Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By: Jordan Benson

Prairie View rallies late, holds off AAMU men's basketball

HUNTSVILLE — The comeback fell just short.

Playing on senior night, with a roster limited due to the injuries, Alabama A&M tried to make a run at one of the top teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Gary Blackston and company, however, survived the storm.

Blackston paced Prairie View A&M with 17 points as the Panthers held off Alabama A&M 72-65 Saturday night in a SWAC men's basketball game.

Prairie View led the majority of the game, building double-figure cushions on multiple occasions.

But Alabama A&M, which was playing with only eight players, refused to fade away.

Led by Andre Kennedy in the paint, the Bulldogs pieced together a couple of offensive runs in the second half, pulling within one possession of Prairie View late in the game and challenging the Panthers to the final buzzer.

Kennedy led Alabama A&M with 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Walters Jones added 16 points and six rebounds.

Gerard Andrus finished with 16 points for Prairie View.

Alabama A&M hosts Texas Southern on Monday in the Bulldogs' final home game of the season.
