Figueroa hurls complete game, Alabama A&M baseball sweeps Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jose Figueroa went the distance for Alabama A&M on the mound as the Bulldogs topped Bethune-Cookman 7-4 Wednesday afternoon to sweep the two-game non-conference series.

Alabama A&M (9-20) opened the game strong, pushing six runs across the plate in the top of the first inning.

That was all the run support Figueroa (1-1) needed.

Figueroa struck out three while holding Bethune-Cookman (9-17) to 10 hits and three earned runs in the complete-game pitching win.

Alabama A&M extended its lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning when Will Hampson drove in Kyle Redmond with an RBI triple.

Hampson finished with a hit and two RBIs, while Jonathan Smith II, Brandon Moore and Redmond each had two hits and an RBI. Daniel Tart and Raymond Santiago each added a hit and an RBI.

Alabama A&M hosts Mississippi Valley State on Friday at 3 p.m. to open a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series.
