Lady Bulldogs explode offensively, beat rival Alabama State 10-3 to open weekend series

MONTGOMERY __ The Bulldogs rode an offensive explosion in the second to beat Alabama State 10-3 on Friday to open up the weekend series between Southwestern Athletic Conference rivals. 

The Lady Bulldogs responded soundly after giving up three runs in the opening inning by totaling nine runs in the second to gain a commanding lead. Tamia Lee-Barbadillo (2-3, one run), Alyssa Lopez (2-4, one HR) and Ariel McAtee (3-4, one run) all had multiple hits for the Lady Bulldogs, while Madison Pozzi also earned a hit, one RBI and also scoring twice. 

After the bottom half of the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs held the Hornets scoreless for the remainder of the game Lisabelle Hansell (7-4) picked up the win for Alabama A&M while pitching a complete game and striking out three batters. 

Vanessa Bradford (7-6) picked up the loss for the Alabama State, giving up nine runs in less than two innings. Charlene Castro came in for relief for the Lady Hornets, who were led offensively by Alexis Sydnor (3-4) and Kristin Gunter (3-4, one run). 

These two teams are set to finish the series with a double-header on Saturday in Montgomery scheduled to start at 1 p.m. central time.
