UNA holds off late Alabama A&M rally

FLORENCE — A late Alabama A&M rally fell short.

Kaleb Barnes recorded a save as North Alabama held off Alabama A&M 6-5 Monday night in a non-conference baseball game.

North Alabama (12-32) took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, and the Lions led the entire game. But Alabama A&M (13-36) rallied back late, with Pierre Brewton driving in a pair of runs in the eighth inning to pull the Bulldogs within a run.

But it was too little, too late.

Barnes recorded his second save of the season, holding Alabama A&M scoreless in the ninth inning.

Daniel Tart led Alabama A&M with four hits and an RBI, while Will Hampson had three hits. Brewton added two hits and two RBIs.

Alabama A&M travels to Mississippi Valley on Friday for a three-game series to close out the season.
