Gooden sends Alabama A&M Past UAH

HUNTSVILLE — Ayanna Gooden made it count.

With Alabama A&M needing a goal, and the Bulldogs struggling to maintain possession, Gooden took on herself to make a game-changing play.

Gooden stole possession from an Alabama-Huntsville player late in the second half, and immediately followed with a shot from more than 20 yards out that slipped passed the goalkeeper as Alabama A&M topped the Chargers 2-1 Friday afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer match.

Gooden's go-ahead goal came in the 75th minute.

Before Gooden's second-half goal, there were not many shots on goal taken by either team in the final 45 minutes.

Alabama A&M (2-3) took the lead in the first half when D'Essence Burnett scored on a Tehya Beadles assist. UAH (0-2-1) tied the score before halftime on a goal from Rachel Collins.

Jodi Medina finished with six saves for Alabama A&M. Adriana Wright had four saves for UAH.
