Alabama A&M and Louisiana Monroe battle to scoreless draw

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Sunday afternoon with a scoreless draw against Louisiana Monroe at Bulldog Field.
 
The Bulldogs (2-5-1) played well defensively, as they bounced back from two consecutive losses before facing the Warhawks (3-4-2), members of the Sun Belt conference, at home.
 
Reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week D'Essence Burnett took the first shot of the game at the two-minute mark, but went wide left. ULM threatened five minutes later with back to back shots, but neither could find the back of the net.
 
In the 28th minute, freshman forward Jameela Barrett took a shot for the Bulldogs, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.
 
Towards the end of the first half, the Warhawks attacked again but couldn't connect. As the half was ending, they got off two more shots on goal, but neither could connect. The two teams went into halftime scoreless.
 
The second half had more of the same, as each team had opportunities to score but could not convert. At the 70-minute mark, ULM took back-to-back shots that were both saved. Moments after, they pushed it into Bulldog territory again for another shot, which was also saved.
 
The Warhawks threatened a number of times in the first overtime, however failed to connect for a goal. Freshman Jameela Burnett took a shot in the final 10 seconds of the period for the Bulldogs, only to hit the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Jodi Medina finished the game with five saves, as the Bulldogs gain their first shutout of the year.
 
UP NEXT
Alabama A&M's next two matches will be on the road at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, their first conference match of the season, and at Grambling before returning home for two matches on Homecoming weekend.
