Alabama A&M Soccer to Travel to Arkansas to Begin Southwestern Athletic Conference Play

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama A&M soccer team will kick off Southwestern Athletic Conference play in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to face off against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will be the first of two conference road matches on the weekend.

Bulldogs Non-Conference Campaign
  • Alabama A&M has a current record of 2-5-1 at the conclusion of non-conference play.
  • The Bulldogs won multiple non-conference matches this season for the first time since 2008.
  • Freshmen D'Essence Burnett (2 goals, 1 assist) and Makayla Rushing (2 goals) lead the team in points. Rushing also leads the team in shots with 19, followed by Burnett (12) and fellow freshman Jameela Barrett (11).
  • Junior goalkeeper Jodi Media has tallied 44 total saves with the Alabama A&M defense, who has one shutout on the season.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff Notes
  • The Lady Bulldogs currently have a two-game winning streak against the Golden Lions.
  • The last meeting on Oct. 21, 2018 ending in a 2-1 win in Huntsville.
  • Pine-Bluff has a current record of 2-5, with non-conference wins against Central Baptist College (2-1) and at Jarvis Christian College (4-0).
  • The Golden Lions ended their 2018 campaign with a 3-9-2 overall record and a 3-5-2 SWAC mark. Their season concluded in the opening round of the SWAC Tournament with a 3-0 loss to Grambling State.
Grambling Notes
  • The Lady Bulldogs currently have a two-game losing streak against the Tigers.
  • The last meeting on Oct. 19, 2018 ending in a 1-0 loss in Huntsville.
  • Grambling has a current record of 3-6-1, with non-conference wins against LSU-Shreveport (2-0), Louisiana-Monroe (3-2) and against Northwestern State (1-0).
  • The Tigers ended their 2018 campaign with a 14-8 overall record and a 9-1 SWAC mark. Their season concluded in the championship game of the SWAC Tournament with a 1-0 loss to Howard.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs will return home for their next two games during homecoming week. They will be celebrating Homecoming by having alumni weekend as they face off against Southern University on Friday, October 4 at 3:30 p.m., and Jackson State University on Sunday, October 6 at 1 p.m.
