Bulldogs Defeat Pine Bluff For Second Straight Conference Win

HUNTSVILLE __ A career-high 32 points from Cameron Alford helps the Bulldogs defeat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 59-49, on Saturday night in Elmore Gymnasium.

The Alabama A&M men's program has won four consecutive home games and have matched last season's win total of five. Alford scored his 32 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and 8-for-10 free throws.


First Half
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff started the game with the first four points and a 9-5 run in Elmore before Alabama A&M responded to tie the game 11-11 with 13 minutes to play.
  • After finding the game tied again 14-14, the Bulldogs proceeded to go on a run of their own to gain the lead and stretched that lead out to as many as 11 points before going into the locker room leading 35-26.
  • The Bulldogs made 13-of-35 shots from the field in the first half, and assisted on seven of those baskets.
  • Freshman Cameron Alford led A&M with 15 points on 3-for-5 three pointers in the first half.
Second Half
  • Alabama A&M begin the second half on a 7-2 run during the first three minutes of the half to stretch the lead to 12 points with 16:06 to play in the game.
  • Pine Bluff responded with a 9-2 run to bring the game back within single digits, before a three by Alford gave A&M a 47-37 lead with 12:23 left in the game.
  • The teams battled back and forth, with the Pine Bluff hitting a three pointer to cut the lead down to six with 5:10 to play in the game.
  • Alabama A&M ended the game with an exclamation as center EJ Williams finished a possession with a dunk off an assist from Alford to put the Bulldogs up 57-46 with 38 seconds left before winning the game by a final of 59-49.

  • Alabama A&M starters: Brandon Miller, Cameron Tucker, Garrett Hicks, TJ Parham, EJ Williams
  • The Bulldogs shot 20-for-60 (33.3 percent) from the field as a team for the game, 5-for-15 (33.3 percent) from the three-point line and 14-for-22 from the charity stripe (63.6 percent).
  • Alabama A&M was outscored in the lane on Saturday night, scoring 26 points in the paint compared to the 32 by Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
  • The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle by recorded 45 rebounds to the 40 of Pine Bluff. The Bulldogs scored 11 second chance points on 19 offensive rebounds, while the Golden Lions scored nine second chance points off of 12 offensive boards.
  • The Bulldog bench exploded Saturday as they outscored the opposing bench 38-14. Alford led the bench mob for Alabama A&M with his career-high 32 points.
  • Turnovers: A&M forced Arkansas-Pine Bluff into 14 turnovers and scored 15 points off of the miscues, while Pine Bluff scored nine points off of 11 Bulldog turnovers.

Alabama A&M will remain home on Monday night to face off against Mississippi Valley on Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Birmingham to play rival Alabama State at the Bill Harris Arena on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m.
