Lady Bulldogs Drop a Pair on Opening Day

METAIRIE, La. – Alabama A&M softball dropped a pair of games in the Big Easy Softball Tournament on Friday on opening day of the 2020 season by finals of 8-0 to host team Louisiana Tech and 12-0 to Houston Baptist.

Freshman Jacqueline Rookaird led the Lady Bulldogs with two hits on the day, while Alyssa Lopez and Lisabelle Hansell each had a hit in game two.

GAME ONE
Host Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the opening inning, and added one in the third and five in the fifth inning during the first matchup of the day. 

Alabama A&M was unable to generate any momentum in the contest as the Lady Bulldogs were held to just one hit in 14 at bats. 

Starting pitcher, Alyssa Lopez, worked 4 1/3 innings in the circle, faced 20 batters, allowed eight runs, three of which were earned, and seven hits. Lopez also struck out five batters in the loss.

GAME TWO
After falling in game one, the Lady Bulldogs moved on to face Houston Baptist University, in the second game of the day.

After a scoreless first inning form both sides, HBU broke the game open with a five run second inning, followed by a four-run third, and adding three more scores in the fourth frame for the 12-0 final.

Jacqueline Rookaird received her first action on the mound of her career, pitching 2 2/3 innings in the circle, faced 17 batters, allowed eight runs and nine hits. Rookaird recorded two strike outs in the loss. Alabama A&M fell to 0-2 to start off the season at the Big Easy Tournament.
