Men's Basketball Fall 85-58 at Texas Southern

HUNTSVILLE __ The Bulldogs offensive struggles continued during the first half, fell in Houston to Texas Southern 85-58 on Saturday night.

Cameron Alford, Cameron Tucker and Evan Wiley all scored ten points each for the Bulldogs in the loss.


First Half
  • Offensive production was scarce for the Bulldogs in the first half, as the Tigers scored the first six points of the game before a made three by Cameron Alford to put A&M on the board.
  • After a jump shot plus the foul by Texas Southern, Garrett Hicks hit the Bulldog second three on the game to make the score 9-6 with 15:40 to go in the half.
  • Over the next eight minutes, the Tigers went on a 12-0 run to put the score at 21-6, before the Bulldogs scored to end their drought with 7:23 in the first half.
  • Texas Southern continued to control the ball game, outscoring A&M 19-4 for the remainder of the half to head into the locker room with a score of 40-12.
  • The Bulldogs shot just 4-for-30 from the field in the first half, while the Tigers shot 14-for-31.
Second Half
  • Alabama A&M scored first in the second half with another three-pointer by Alford, before Texas Southern responded with five unanswered points to put the score at 45-15 at the 17:15 mark.
  • The Bulldogs began to get a rhythm offensively, scoring on tow-point baskets from EJ Williams and five points from Alford. The Bulldogs continued to attempt to reduce the deficit, pulling the score to 56-29 with 12 minutes remaining and 63-38 with 9:27 to go.
  • A&M outscored Texas Southern 46-45 in the second half, however lost in the H&PE Arena 85-58.
Post-Game Notes
  • Alabama A&M Starters: Cameron Tucker, Garrett Hicks, Cameron Alford, Jalen Johnson, EJ Williams.
  • The Bulldogs shot 20-for-58 (34.5 percent) from the field as a team for the game, 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) from the three-point line and 11-for-19 from the charity stripe (57.9 percent).
  • Texas Southern dominated the battle in the paint, outscoring A&M in the lane 42-18 in the contest.
  • Texas Southern won the rebounding battle 50-34. The Tigers grabbed 18 offensive rebounds for 20 second chance points, while the Bulldogs grabbed ten and scored seven second chance points.
  • The Tiger bench outscored the Bulldog bench in the matchup, producing 38 points to the 22 scored by A&M.
  • Turnovers: Texas Southern also won the turnover battle, scoring 16 points off of 17 Bulldog turnovers, while A&M scored just seven points off of 15 Jaguar turnovers.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will remain in Houston to face Prairie View A&M on Mar. 2 at 7:30 p.m. before heading back home for their last home stretch of the season.
