Alabama A&M Women’s Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision To Jackson State

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (0-14, 0-2 SWAC) fell by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) decision to Jackson State (3-10, 3-0 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's volleyball match on Sunday, October 3.
 
The Tigers held a 13-7 lead in the opening frame before scoring eight of the next 12 points to stretch the lead to 21-11. Both teams would go back and forth before JSU got the final point to wrap up the set at 25-16.
 
The second set started with both teams tied at 8-8 before Jackson State had a 5-0 run to push their advantage to score before going on a 7-4 run to extend their margin to 20-12. Once again both teams would take turns trading points and the Tigers would get the final score to end the set 25-17.
 
In the final frame, JSU led 14-6 before AAMU had a 3-0 burst to close the gap and narrow it to five. The Tigers answered with their own 3-0 run to push the score to 17-9 before scoring eight of the final 15 points to wrap up the set, and the match with a 25-16 victory.
 
Freshmen middle hitters Ryann Tolbert (Southfield, Mich,) and Sydney Morant (Columbus, Ohio) led the Bulldogs in kills with five and four, respectively. Sophomore setter Isis Mitchell (Plano, Texas) fueled the offense with seven assists and freshman defensive specialist Abigail Cangelosi (Huntsville, Ala.) chipped in with 11 digs to round out the top performers.
 
Alexis Williams had 14 kills while Olivia Flanagan had 10 for the Tigers. Damassy Thompson dished out 28 assists and both Williams and Trinity Bryant lead the defense with seven digs each.
 
The Bulldogs will remain home on Monday, October 4 for another Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match up as they take on Mississippi Valley State. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Elmore Gymnasium.
