Alabama A&M Drops 3-0 Decision To Florida A&M In Season Finale

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (5-23, 5-11 SWAC) dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-8, 25-16) decision to Florida A&M (21-6, 13-2 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's volleyball match on Saturday, November 13 on Senior Day.
 
FAMU opened the set with a massive 11-5 advantage before the Bulldogs would unleash a 5-0 run to close the gap to 11-10. The Rattlers would then pull ahead with a 10-6 rally to lead 21-16 before scoring four of the final six points to win the frame 25-18.
 
The Rattlers started the second set leading 13-4 before using a 7-2 burst to widen the gap to 20-6. From there they would wrap up the set with a 5-2 run that included three kills for a 25-8 victory.
 
The third frame got underway with FAMU having a minor 11-9 advantage before unleashing a 7-0 rally to stretch the lead to 18-9. The Bulldogs responded by scoring six of the next 11 points to close the gap to 23-15 before Florida A&M would wrap up the frame by scoring two of the final three points to win the set and match with a 25-16 victory.
 
Senior outside hitter Ashley Jordan (Bridgetown, Barbados) lead the Bulldogs with nine kills while freshman middle hitter Sydney Morant (Columbus, Ohio) notched six and sophomore setter Isis Mitchell (Plano, Texas) ignited the offense with 16 assists. Jordan came away with five digs and junior setter Isis Mitchell (Plano, Texas) chipped in with four to round out the top performers.
 
Dominique Washington had 16 kills for FAMU and Irem Ucar fueled the offense with 37 assists. Dominique Turner led the defense with 10 digs while Jessa Long came away with nine.
 
With the loss, the Bulldogs close out the 2021 campaign with a 5-23 overall record and 5-11 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in their first season back after opting out of the Spring 2021 slate.
