Alabama A&M Women’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Austin Peay; Falls 3-0

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (0-6-1, 0-0-0 SWAC) could not overcome a pair of first half goals as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Austin Peay (3-4-1, 0-0-0 OVC) in an NCAA Division I women's soccer game on Thursday, September 16.

APSU wasted no time getting on the score board as Alec Baumgardt found Rachel Bradberry who then buried it to the back right corner of the goal for a 1-0 margin just 59 seconds in.

After that opening outburst neither team would find the back of the net for the next 31 minutes until the Governors drew up the right play. That would be Gybson Roth feeding Olivia Prock who proceeded to put the ball to the bottom left of the goal at 32:20 for a 2-0 lead.

From there the Bulldogs defense held Austin Peay scoreless to head to the break trailing 2-0.

The Governors came out of the half determined to extend their lead as Prock would take it herself and connect to the bottom center of the goal at 46:52.

That early score, however would be it the rest of the way as the teams combined for nine shots, none finding the netting, in what would be a 3-0 final.

Junior forward Makayla Rushing (Red Oak, Texas.) lead the Bulldogs in shots with two and senior goalkeeper Jodi Medina (Coral Springs, Fla.) played all 90 minutes, making nine saves while allowing three goals.

Prock ignited the offense for Austin Peay, delivering a goal and assisting another while Bradberry and Roth scored one goal each. Peyton Powell anchored the defense in the first half not allowing any goals while Chloe Dion registered a clean sheet in the second half.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, September 19 for another home game as they take on South Carolina State. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. at the Merrimack Soccer Complex number 11 turf field in Huntsville, Alabama.
