Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (2-6-1, 1-0-0 SWAC) dished out a pair of goals in both halves to post a 4-1 decision over Mississippi Valley State (0-5-0, 0-1-0 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's soccer game on Friday, September 24.
The Bulldogs were the first to get on the scoreboard as senior forward Tehya Beadles (Sacramento, Calif.) took a feed from freshman forward Lauryn Christophe (Conyers, Ga.) and proceeded to put it in the back middle of the net for a 1-0 margin.
The Delta Devils would respond as Beatriz Kretteis would connect to the bottom center of the goal to even the game at 1-1. AAMU would then take the lead as junior forward Makayla Rushing (Red Oak, Texas) assisted sophomore forward Gabby Cumby (Corpus Christi, Texas) who drove the ball into the right side of the goal to head to the break up 2-1.
The Bulldogs came out of the half determined to extend their lead as junior forward Laura Jansa (Barcelona, Spain)would take it herself, driving the ball to the back right corner for a 3-1 margin.
For the final goal of the game, sophomore midfielder Fernanda Valencia (Lawton, Okla.) hooked up with freshman midfielder Marissa Horton (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), who buried the ball to the bottom left side of the goal to close out a 4-1 decision.
Jansa fueled the offense for the Bulldogs with one goal and an assist, while Cumby, Beadles and Horton added one score apiece and Valencia and Rushing had one assist each. Senior goalkeeper Jodi Medina (Coral Springs, Fla.) played all 90 minutes, making three saves to improve to (2-6-1).
Krettis led the offense for MVSU with one goal and Paige Smith anchored the defense as she went the distance, playing all 90 minutes in net.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, September 26 against Alcorn with a 1 p.m. kickoff in Lorman, Mississippi.
