Alabama A&M Women’s Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision At Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (0-7, 0-0 SWAC) fell by a 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-21) decision to Jacksonville State (6-1, 0-0 ASUN) in an NCAA Division I women's volleyball match on Tuesday, September 7.
 
The Gamecocks opened the first set with a 15-8 run, before the Bulldogs would score nine of the next 14 points to close the gap to 20-17. That would be as close as they would get, as the Gamecocks answered with a 5-0 burst to wrap up the first frame with a 25-17 victory.
 
The second set started off close with the teams tied at three apiece before Jacksonville State ran off five straight points to extend their lead to 8-3. A&M would notch a point before the Gamecocks unleashed a 7-0 run to push the score to 15-4. They would then score 10 of the next 15 points to close out the set 25-9.
 
In the final frame, the teams knotted at 5-5 before JSU delivered a 5-0 burst to push their lead to 10-5. From there Jacksonville State would maintain their six point lead at 21-15 before pushing the Bulldogs to the brink, 24-1.
 
A&M held on by notching three consecutive points but Jacksonville State would secure one more point to close out the set and match with a 25-21 victory.
 
Freshman middle hitters Ryann Tolbert (Southfield, Mich.) and Samaurya Mahone (Duncanville, Texas) led the Bulldogs in kills with six apiece and freshman setter Aerienne Acuff (French Lick, Ind.) ignited the offense with 15 assists.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Abigail Cangelosi (Huntsville, Ala.) notched 14 digs and Tolbert followed behind with nine while freshman outside hitter Kori Mills (Hiram, Ga.) had seven to round out the top performers.
 
Kylee Ouigley had nine kills for the Gamecocks while Macie Garrison produced 21 assists and Erin Carmichael led the defense with 14 digs.
 
The Bulldogs will next take to the court on Tuesday, September 14 to battle North Alabama. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. in Florence, Alabama.
