Alabama A&M Men’s Basketball Drops 78-44 Decision at Texas Southern

HOUSTON, Texas. – Alabama A&M (4-12, 3-3 SWAC) could not withstand an offensive barrage from Texas Southern (6-10, 4-3 SWAC) and dropped a 78-44 decision in an NCAA Division I men's basketball game on Saturday, January 22.
 
Junior forward Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) had 11 points five rebounds and two steals while junior guard Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) finished with 11 points, five steals and two boards. Junior guard Cameron Tucker (Birmingham, Ala.) chipped in with seven points, two assists, three rebounds and a pair of steals while sophomore guard Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added four points, five boards, two assists and a pair of steals.
 
The Tigers started strong, jumping out to a 9-0 lead within the first five minutes of play before the Bulldogs would respond with an 8-0 run that included four points from Johnson and a trey from Hicks to close the gap to 9-8 at the 13:29 minute mark.
 
For the remainder of the frame Texas Southern would explode with a 33-12 rally that consisted of five treys to stretch the score to 42-20 heading into the break.
 
AAMU would start the second half by scoring the next 11 of 17 points to close the gap to 48-31 with 13:10 showing on the clock. At that point, TSU would respond by unleashing a 30-13 rally with John Jones contributing 12 points to close out the 78-44 decision.
 
Jones led Texas Southern with 15 points and three steals while Brison Gresham finished with 11 points and four rebounds. Bryson Etienne notched 11 points and four boards and PJ Henry had seven points, three assists and two steals.
 
The Bulldogs will next take to the court to battle against Prairie View A&M on Monday, January 24. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
