Alabama A&M Men’s Basketball Drops 72-48 Decision at Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. – Alabama A&M (4-13, 3-4 SWAC) dropped a 72-48 decision at Prairie View (4-12, 4-4 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I men's basketball game on Monday, January 24.
 
Junior forward Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bulldogs with 15 points, four steals and three rebounds while junior guard Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) finished with nine points and two assists. Junior guard Cameron Tucker (Birmingham, Ala.) chipped in with eight points, three assists and four rebounds while sophomore guard Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added seven points and three steals.
 
The Panthers started strong, jumping out to a 25-2 lead within the first nine minutes of play before the Bulldogs would respond with an 8-4 run to try and close the gap to 29-10 at the 9:34 minute mark.
 
For the remainder of the frame PVAMU would score the next 15 of 21 points that consisted of four treys to stretch the score to 44-16 heading into the break.
 
AAMU would start the second half with an 8-0 run to close the gap to 44-24 with 16:53 showing on the clock. At that point, the Jaguars would continue to outscore the Bulldogs with a 28-24 run with DeWayne Cox contributing seven points to close out the 72-48 decision.
 
Jawaun Daniels led Prairie View with a game-high 30 points and seven rebounds while D'Rell Roberts finished with 11 points and three boards. Cox notched nine points and four assists and Jeremiah Kendall had seven points, five rebounds and three steals to round out the top performers.
 
The Bulldogs will return home to take on Florida A&M on Saturday, January 29. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Elmore Gymnasium.
