Alabama A&M Surrenders Pair of First Half Goals In 2-0 Loss at League-Leading Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – A pair of first half scores, including one in the opening minutes, put Alabama A&M (4-9-1, 2-3-1 SWAC) on their heels in what would be a 2-0 loss to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) leading Jackson State (6-6-1, 5-0-1 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's soccer game on Sunday, October 16.

Before anyone could break a sweat, the Tigers Sage Magruder found Kiana Tulloch in front of the net and she promptly drove it home for a 1-0 lead with just 3:24 gone by. JSU would then continue to apply pressure with four straight shots over the next 15 minutes to the Bulldogs' two. Their next though would see Annalise Brunson convert on her attempt off a pass from Karime Antonio Lopez for a 2-0 advantage with 30:28 gone by.

From there the teams would trade a shot apiece over the final 14-plus minutes to head to the break with that two goal margin.

After going the first 11-plus minutes of the second half without a shot by either team it would be a barrage with nine in a span of 6:35. The last eight of those would come from Jackson State with three requiring a save but none would find their mark. The rest of the way A&M would manage just one shot, that coming on goal by senior Jameela Barrett (London, England) at 79:58 as JSU closed out the 2-0 victory.

Six different players would have a shot for the Bulldogs with Barrett and freshman defender K'la Barnes-Blackwood (Margate, Fla.) each putting one on net. Freshman Ma'Kayla Prince (Hamilton, Ohio), a midfielder playing out of position in goal, logged all 90 minutes, making five saves and allowing both scores to fall to 1-1 on the year.

Tulloch would fire off a game-high four shots with three on net and find the back of the net once to lead the Tigers while Brunson had the other score. Magruder and Antonio Lopez each added assists and Tionna Taylor went the distance in goal, making a pair of saves to lock up the shutout and improve to 6-6-1.

The Bulldogs are back onthe field on Friday, October 21 when they return home to take on Mississippi Valley State. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
