CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Alabama A&M (4-19, 3-4 SWAC) rounded out the non-conference portion of the campaign as they fell 3-0 to Chattanooga (11-12, 5-3 SoCon) by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-19 in an NCAA Division I women's volleyball match on Sunday, October 17.
The teams would not be able to gain any separation over the first 17 points as they battled through seven ties and a pair of lead changes before A&M claimed a narrow 9-8 lead. From there, however, UTC would score seven of the next eight points to fuel a set-ending 17-7 run that gave them a 25-16 win and 1-0 match lead.
Game 2 would see the Mocs with a slim 6-5 lead early on but that would quickly change behind a 12-3 burst that extended their advantage to 18-8. Back-to-back points would cut it below double-digits for the Bulldogs but it would be one of the last times as Chattanooga took seven of the final nine points to close out a 25-12 victory and a two set advantage.
The Mocs came out hot in Game 3, taking an 8-3 lead and maintained roughly that margin with a 14-10 margin. A&M would get no closer than that, however, as UTC methodically worked their offense on their way to a 25-19 decision that locked up the 3-0 sweep.
