BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M freshman
Ma'Kayla Prince (Hamilton, Ohio), a midfielder by trade, has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, October 18.
Prince has stepped up and played out of position for the past three games and played a key role in the two road outings from this past week. At Southern (10/14) she played all 90 minutes, making seven saves against 11 shots and recorded her first career shutout in a 2-0 victory.
She would close at league-leading Jackson State, surrendering a pair of first half goals while making five saves against 15 attempts. She would go 1-1 on the week with a 1.00 goals against average, 12 saves and a shutout.
It is the first such honor of her career and she joins senior goalkeeper
Laura Jansa (Barcelona, Spain) and freshman defender
K'la Barnes-Blackwood as SWAC honorees this season. Both were recognized on August 31 as Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week, respectively.
Prince and the Bulldogs are back in action Friday, October 18 as they host Mississippi Valley State. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
