GRAMBLING, La. – Alabama A&M (5-16, 4-7 SWAC) fell to Grambling (10-13, 8-3 SWAC) within the last five minutes in an NCAA Division I men's basketball game on Monday, February 7.
Junior forward
Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Bulldogs with a game high 20 points, and seven rebounds while senior forward
Myles Parker (Huntsville, Ala.) had 10 points and three boards. Sophomore guard
Dailin Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo.) chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, five steals and a pair of blocks while junior guard
Garrett Hicks (Madison, Ala.) added seven points and five boards.
Over the first eight minutes the Tigers built a 14-9 lead that included five points from Cameron Christon. For the remainder of the frame the Bulldogs would respond with a 22-13 run that consisted of 12 points from Johnson to flip the switch and take the lead, 31-27 heading into the break.
Grambling would start the second half with a bang registering a 21-10 rally that consisted of eight points from Shawndarius Cowart and six from Eric Parrish to take the advantage, 48-41, with 8:38 left on the clock. AAMU would respond with a 9-3 burst that included five points from Parker and four from Johnson to close the gap to 51-50.
GSU would then use the remaining 4:17 to outscore Alabama A&M with a 9-0 stretch that consisted of four points from Tra'Michael Moton to close out the 58-50 victory.
Christon would lead the Tigers with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals with Parrish following with 11 points, 10 boards and three assists. Cowart added 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals while Moton finished with five points, four boards and two assists to round out the top performers.
Alabama A&M will return home on Saturday, February 12 to face off against Mississippi Valley State. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Elmore Gymnasium.
