Alabama A&M Baseball Drops 10-6 Decision Against Jackson State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (4-14, 2-3 SWAC) dropped a 10-6 decision against Jackson State (12-11, 1-4 SWAC) on Saturday, March 26 in an NCAA Division I baseball game.

In the first inning JSU would waste no time getting on the scoreboard  as Jatavis Melton and Ty Hill scored for a 2-0 lead. They would then capitalize in the top of the second as Melton doubled to left field to bring home Omar Gomez-Rivera and JJ Johnson to extend the advantage to 4-0.

The Bulldogs would finally respond in the bottom of third inning as graduate right fielder Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) singled to right field and brought home graduate center fielder Nemo Wright (PG County, Md.) before sophomore shortstop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah) stole home. The barrage would continue as junior catcher Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) tripled to right center to allow Dixon to score before
Tribett scored on a wild pitch to even the game, 4-4.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the fifth as Tribett answered in fine style with a home run to left field for the Bulldogs to lead, 5-4 for the first time in the game. The Tigers would answer in the top of the seventh inning as Jaelen Williams reached on a fielding error and Devontae Rhodes scored to even the game before Hill scored on a wild pitch to flip the switch and take the advantage, 6-5.

JSU would then capitalize in the top of the eighth as Melton added a run before unleashing three runs in the top of the ninth. Asher Akridge singled through the left side to bring home El'Rico Riley and then Chevalier Dorris Jr. scored before Akridge stole home for the 10-5 lead.

AAMU would then answer in the bottom of the inning as Dixon singled to center field to allow freshman second baseman Kylan Duncan (Huntsville, Ala.) to score the final run of the game as JSU closed out the 10-6 decision.

Melton led the Tigers with a 3-of-6 day, three RBIs and a run scored while Hill was 2-of-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Akridge was 2-of-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Erick Gonzales threw seven innings, striking out nine and allowed five earned runs to move to 3-2.

Tribett led the Bulldogs as he was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, a home run and two runs scored while Dixon was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Duncan had a 1-for-4 day with a run scored. Sophomore pitcher Tyler Campbell (Albuquerque, N.M.) threw six three innings and struck out one while junior pitcher Josue Torres (Cidra, Puerto Rico) threw three innings, striking out four and allowed four earned runs to suffer the loss to fall to 0-4.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on tomorrow, Sunday, March 27 as they wrap up the three-game series against Jackson State. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
