BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M (3-6, 3-0 SWAC) dropped a 7-0 decision at Alabama-Birmingham (8-4, 0-0 C-USA) in a non-conference NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Thursday, March 3.
 
Juniors Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Ximena D. Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) fell to MacKenzie White and Vanessa Mellynchuk 6-2 at No. 2 doubles before freshman Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) and senior India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) dropped a decision by that same score at No. 3 to surrender the doubles point.
 
Holding that 1-0 lead, UAB would build on it with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over freshman Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.) by Alexandra da Silva at No. 6 singles and a 6-0, 6-1 decision by Annalisa Smith over Ruiz Diaz at the five spot.
 
The Blazers then put the match away as Mellynchuk defeated sophomore Neha Ghare (Pune, India) 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Ramirez then had the most competitive match of the day as she fell 6-3, 6-2 to Jana Hecking at No. 4 before UAB closed out the 7-0 victory.
 
The Bulldogs are right back in action Sunday, March 6 as they host neighboring North Alabama. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Huntsville Tennis Center.
