HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Taking on the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Regular Season Champions, Alabama A&M (5-15, 5-4 SWAC) fell by a 4-0 decision to Jackson State (13-5, 9-0 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's tennis match on Saturday, April 2.
Juniors
Ximena Duarte Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay) dropped a 6-1 decision to Sherine Salem and Tyra-Nicole Whyte at No. 1 doubles to give the Tigers the early lead. Dealva Alston and Zeina Shaban then defeated sophomores
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and
Kennedy Ward (Hoover, Ala.) 6-2 at No. 6 to secure the doubles point.
JSU would then put the match away over the first three singles contests as Ward fell 6-1, 6-1 to Shaban at the sixth position and freshman
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Paula Arcarons. Junior
India Woods (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) then fell 6-1, 6-2 to Daniela Ramos at the fifth position.
Alabama A&M wraps up the regular season as they host Tennessee State in non-conference action on Sunday, April 10. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Huntsville Tennis Center.
