Alabama A&M Baseball Drops 6-5 Decision Against Jackson State On Day Two

JACKSON, Miss. – Alabama A&M (7-30, 4-16 SWAC) dropped a close 6-5 decision against Jackson State (21-21, 9-11 SWAC) on Saturday, April 30 in an NCAA Division I baseball game.
 
In the first inning JSU would waste no time in getting on the scoreboard  as Jaelen Williams singled to right center and allowed Ty Hill to score for a 1-0 lead. They would then capitalize in the bottom of the second inning as Jefrey Rodriguez homered down the left field line to extend the advantage by two.

The Bulldogs would finally respond in the top of the third inning as sophomore first baseman Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) singled up the middle and brought home sophomore shortstop Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah)  before freshman designated hitter Janmikell Bastardo (Fort Myers, Fla.) flied out to center field and allowed graduate center fielder Damani Thomas (Zellewood, Fla.) to score and tie the game, 2-2.

AAMU would then flip the switch and take the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Stocking hit a sacrifice fly to center field and brought home junior second baseman Thomas Easley (Acworth, Ga.) for a one run advantage. The Tigers would then respond immediately in the bottom of the inning as Omar Gomez tripled to right center and allowed El'Rico Riley to score and even the game 3-3.

Alabama A&M would answer in the top of the fifth inning with  junior catcher Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Miss.) signaling to left center and brought home graduate right fielder Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla.) before Easley singled to left side and Tribett scored to increase the advantage to 5-3.

The score would remain that way until the bottom of the sixth inning as JSU responded with Rodriguez hitting a sacrifice bunt and allowed Williams to score and close the gap by one. They would then answer in fine style in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hill hit a home run to left center to tie the game, 5-5.

Hill led the Tigers with a 4-of-5 day, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored while Rodriguez was 1-of-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. Williams was 2-of-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jesse Caver threw two innings, striking out five and allowed no earned runs to move to 1-3.

Easley led the Bulldogs as he was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Williams was 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Stocking had a 1-for-1 day with an RBI and run scored while Berkemeyer was 2-of-5 with an RBI. Freshman pitcher Avery Seaton (Huntsville, Ala.) threw 0.1 innings and allowed no earned runs to suffer the loss to fall to 1-2.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on tomorrow, Sunday, May 1 as they wrap up the three-game series against Jackson State. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Braddy Field.
