HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M men's golf will be one of just 10 NCAA Division I programs selected to participate in the most culturally significant championship in the country as they head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the 2022 PGA Works Collegiate Championship from May 2-4.
This year's tournament will be hosted by the Union League of Philadelphia and will be played at a pair of courses,
Union League Liberty Hill and the
Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, with teams alternating rounds on each.
Liberty Hill is a Par 72 that plays 7,155 yards while Torresdale is a Par 70 and 6,591-yards. The Union League has acquired both courses within the past eight years and has continued to develop the properties into championship level venues.
The Championship will consist of four different divisions with Men's DI and DII, the Women's Division and the Individual Division with each playing 54 holes, 18 each day. The Bulldogs will open on Liberty Hill on Monday, May 2, tee off on Torresdale on Tuesday, May 3 before returning to Liberty Hill for the final 18 on Wednesday, May 4.
In order to be eligible to compete in the Team Division, an institution must be a Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) with NCAA Division I and Division II golf programs. Priority is given to all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) including but not limited to schools in the MEAC, SWAC, CIAA and SIAC Conferences.
As they did in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships, representing the Bulldogs will be freshman
BK Kim (Won Ju, South Korea), sophomores
Felipe Gomez Lopez (Bogota, Columbia) and
Fabian Sanchez Torres (Bogota, Columbia) and seniors
Conner McMillan (Oxford, Ind.) and
Jason Johnson (Toledo, Ohio).
Prior to the tournament's practice rounds, A&M's contingent, along with the full field of 206 competitors were treated to a players reception at The Inn at The League as well as a welcome reception and dinner at Lincoln Hall.
Additionally, all participants were able to attend
Beyond The Green at the Comcast Tech Center, a networking event designed to put student-athletes in touch with professionals from throughout the world of golf. A Youth Day was also part of the festivities and players are able to experience the what it takes to play at a tournament run by the PGA as part of the PGA Reach program.
