MADISON, Ala. - Alabama A&M (13-35, 9-20 SWAC) could not withstand an offensive barrage by Alabama State (30-22, 21-7 SWAC) and dropped a 17-3 decision in an NCAA Division I baseball game on Friday, May 20.
The Hornets would get on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with three runs that included Cristopher DeGuzman homering to right field and brought home Kyler McIntosh for a 3-0 lead before capitalizing in the top of the second inning as Trenton Jamison scored.
Neither team would affect the score until the top of the fourth inning until ASU responded with a home run from Williams before McIntosh homered to left field and brought home Corey King and Ian Matos. May Hunter would hit a homerun to right field to push the advantage to 9-0.
The Bulldogs would finally respond in the bottom of inning as sophomore first baseman
Trevor Berkemeyer (North Las Vegas, Nev.) flied out to center field and allowed graduate left fielder
Nemo Wright (PG County, Md.) to score before junior third baseman
Tommy Easley (Acworth, Ga.) singled to right center and brought home sophomore short stop
Chandler Stocking (Midway, Utah). Senior catcher
Dillon Roop (New Market, Ala.) would ground out at short stop and graduate right fielder
Tim Dixon scored to cut the deficit to 9-3.
The Hornets would immediately respond in the top of the fifth inning with a run each from Jabronski Williams and Jamison to push their lead to 11-3. The barrage of runs would continue in the top of the inning as Chris Lewis homered to right field and brought home May to push the advantage by 10 runs.
ASU would then capitalize in the top of the seventh and final inning with three runs that included Williams homering to right field and May scored to close out the 17-3 decision.
McIntosh led the Hornets with a 2-of-5 day, five RBIs, one home run and three scored runs while Williams went 2-of-3 with three RBIs, two home runs and three scored runs. Hunter went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored to round out the top performers. McIntosh started and threw five innings, striking out four and allowing three earned runs to move to 4-4.
Easley led the Bulldogs with a 1-of-2 day and one RBI and Wright was 2-of-3 with a scored run. Graduate pitcher
Noah Whitted (Beaumont, Texas) threw four innings, allowing seven earned runs and striking out two to fall to 2-5.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, May 21 as they wrap up the three-game series against Alabama State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the James Clemens High School immediately following Senior Day recognition.
