HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Football season is right around the corner and Alabama A&M Sports Information is taking you inside each of the 11 games throughout the spring and summer with an in-depth look at each over an 11-week stretch leading up to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Media Day on Thursday, July 21.
 
Each release will come out on Sunday and will feature info on the opponent, series history, location and even insight from head coach Connell Maynor to get you primed for the 2022 campaign.

About The Game
Alabama A&M will open the 2022 season just an hour and a half down the road, and for the first time in the program's NCAA Division I history, will do so on a Thursday. While a time has not been announced it is likely the game will be under the lights.
 
This will also mark just the fourth time in the Bulldogs DI history that they will play on a Thursday. The most recent came this past season with a 30-27 victory at Bethune-Cookman on September 16, 2021, making this the first time the team will have consecutive seasons of playing on a Thursday.
 
Before to last year it was a decade prior against Texas Southern on October 13, 2011. A&M won that game 24-21 (although later vacated by the NCAA) and also claimed a 31-14 decision against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on October 18, 2007 in the team's first Thursday night game.

Series History vs. Alabama-Birmingham
For two teams separated by a thin stretch of highway that is an easy up-and-back, it is a surprisingly brief series history.
 
Since the first meeting on September 13, 2014, the clubs have only met twice, with that first encounter being a 41-14 victory in Birmingham. That would be one of the last games that UAB would play before the program was shuttered for two seasons at the end of that year.
 
The Bulldogs would also play a role in the return of Blazer football three years later as the second, and most recent meeting, was the program's return on September 2, 2017. UAB would prevail 38-7 in Birmingham that day for a 2-0 series lead but only led 10-7 at the half.
