Steady Offensive Approach Downs Alabama A&M 3-0 In Season Opener At College of Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Alabama A&M (0-1, 0-0 SWAC) could gain no traction in their season opener as the College of Charleston (1-0, 0-0 CAA) used a steady offensive approach and locked in defensively in a 3-0 decision in an NCAA Division I women's soccer game on Thursday, August 18.

Following a scoreless 14 minutes to open play the Bulldogs' chances would get slimmer and slimmer – literally – the rest of the way. Faith Slimmer would find Mary Alexander for a 1-0 lead at the 14:01 mark before repeating the effort 27 minutes later. With 41:16 gone by she would connect with Bubbles Dever for a 2-0 lead, a margin that they would take to the half.

Just over 15 minutes into the second it would be a double dose of Slimmer sisters as Faith would be on the receiving end for a change, this time from her sister Hope, at the 60:39 mark. From there A&M's defense would step up and hold the CofC scoreless to reach the eventual 3-0 final.

Senior forward Jameela Barrett (London, England) led the Bulldogs with a pair of shots, including the only one on net, while senior goalkeeper Laura Jansa (Barcelona, Spain) went the distance in net. She allowed three goals and made three saves to fall to 0-1 on the year.

Faith Slimmer led the way for the Cougars with a pair of assists and a goal in 62 minutes of action while Alexander and Dever each notched a score. Hope Slimmer rounded out the offense with an assist and Savannah Barron started and played the first half in net, making one save to improve to 1-0. Katie Carrino closed it out with 45 scoreless minutes of relief.

The Bulldogs return to Huntsville for their home opener on Monday, August 22 when they face Troy. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
