HUNTSVILLE – Alabama A&M women's tennis team won a hard-fought battle against Tennessee State by a score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA tennis match held at Athletic Club Alabama.
The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point to start the contest, as the pairs of
Jasmine Boyd (Marion, Ind.) and
Yana Dhamija (Gurugram, India) along with
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and
Alicia Owegi (Nairobi, Kenya) both fell 7-6 in their pairings, while
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Asuncion, Paraguay and
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) finished even at 6-6 in their matchup.
A&M recovered the point in singles play, as both Ghare and Owegi earned straight set wins at 6-2, 6-1 and. 6-3, 6-2 respectively to go up 2-1.
The Tigers took points at No. 2 with Naomi Von Bose defeating Brown 7-5, 6-4 along with taking No. 3 with Ruiz Diaz dropping a three-set match 6-4, 0-6, 6-3) later in the match to take a 3-2 lead.
From there, Dhamija tied the overall score at 3-3 after defeating Franka Sindicic in three sets by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, before Boyd sealed the win by taking the point against Warona Mdlulwa in three sets at 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
