DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Clinging to a two-point lead entering the fourth quarter, Alabama A&M went ice cold over the last five-plus minutes as Bethune Cookman came away with a 55-46 victory Monday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game at Moore Gymnasium.
A layup from Toni Grace (Fishers, Ind.) with 5:36 remaining gave the Bulldogs a 43-41 advantage, but A&M managed just three points the rest of the way as the Lady Wildcats closed the game on a 14-3 run en route to the victory.
A&M shot 18.7 percent from the field in the fourth quarter, making just 3-of-16 field goals, including 1-of-7 from 3-point range, and never got to the free throw line.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 8-11 overall and 6-3 in league play. It is the first time A&M has lost back-to-back conference games this season. BCU improved to 7-12 and 6-3.
Grace led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Amiah Simmons (Osawatomie, KS.) and Taylor Smith (Fosters, AL) finished with eight and seven points, respectively. Simmons grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
