HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Saldy-Amparo Smith recorded a season-high 34 kills, along with 12 digs for a double-double, as the Alabama A&M University volleyball team outlasted Florida A&M in five sets, 3-2, to win its seventh consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match on Saturday at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (8-16 overall, 7-3 SWAC) rallied from two sets down after Florida A&M won the first two sets, 25-20 and 26-24. However, Alabama A&M stormed back with a third-set 25-22 victory and a 25-19 win in the fourth set to force the deciding game. AAMU held off a late FAMU charge, winning the final set, 15-12.
Alabama A&M finished with 67 kills in 175 total attacks, 68 digs, 59 assists, and eight total blocks.
Bailey Duckett added 10 kills and seven digs.
Grace Tapscott dished out 28 assists, while
Mackenzie Jefferson added a double-double of 12 assists and 10 digs.
Michell Jerez paced the defense with 16 digs.
Florida A&M (10-13, 6-4) finished with 49 kills in 161 total attacks, 62 digs, 59 assists, and seven total blocks.
Lynn Brooke Watts led the Rattlers with 15 kills and seven digs. Camila De La Rosa dished out 34 assists along with 15 digs, while Brooke Hudson had 14 digs.

Alabama A&M returns to action with four straight road matches, including three at the SWAC Roundup. The Bulldogs will play Texas Southern and Southern to begin play at the roundup on Sunday, Oct. 29 in Jackson, Miss. AAMU closes out the roundup on Monday, Oct. 30 against Prairie View A&M.
