AAMU Struggles from the Floor at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. | The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team could not get much going offensively, struggling from the floor by shooting nearly 28 percent as the Bulldogs fell, 70-49, to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion. 
 
Alabama A&M (1-7), which went nearly six minutes without a basket late in the first half as Georgia Tech, which shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the opening period, took a 17-point lead (32-15). The Yellow Jackets (5-3) took advantage of AAMU's struggles from the floor in the second half in pulling away for the victory.
 
Chad Moodie came off the bench to provide eight points, three rebounds and two blocked shots. Caleb Blackwell added seven points, two boards, a team-high four steals and one assist. AC Bryant and Dailin Smith each recorded six points.
 
Kowacie Reeves scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the first half, along with 10 rebounds, one assist and one block. Miles Kelly did all his damage in the first half, with 11 points and four boards, while Tyzhaun Claude added 10 points, nine boards and two assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M jumped out to a 7-5 advantage after a three-point play by Smith, with just under 15 minutes to play in the opening half, but Georgia Tech answered with a 9-2 run over the next four minutes, capped by an Ibrahima Sacko dunk with 11:11 left.
 
The Yellow Jackets stretched the margin to 24-15 after a triple by Kelly with just under four minutes remaining in the half.
 
The Bulldogs, who shot 21.9 percent in the first half, went nearly six minutes without a bucket as Georgia Tech built a 32-15 advantage after a pair of free throws by Reeves. EJ Williams hook shot ended the shooting spell with 36 seconds left and the Yellow Jackets went into the break with a 34-17 lead.
 
Alabama A&M opened the second half shooting 1-for-10 from the floor as Georgia Tech extended the lead to 57-27 with just under 10 minutes to play.
 
The Bulldogs never got any closer than 19 points during the final 10 minutes.
