JACKSON, Miss. – Head Coach Willis Mbandi and his Alabama A&M women's tennis squad closed out the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tennis Pod over the weekend a perfect 3-0 after defeating Bethune-Cookman 4-0 on Sunday morning.
The Bulldogs (4-3, 3-0 SWAC) took the doubles point starting with
Neha Ghare (Pune, India) and
Alicia Owegi (Nairobi, Kenya) winning in their matchup, followed by
Deja Brown (Spring Valley, Calif.) and
Camila Ruiz Diaz (Ascuncion, Paraguay) winning 6-0 over the pairing of Keona Burley and Loncey Elie at the No. 2 flight.
Owegi started off singles play with a win at the No. 6 flight, while Dhamija won in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0 over Courdeja Clark. Ruiz Diaz sealed the win for the Bulldogs on the day with a sweep against Barley (6-0, 6-0).
The weekend results guarantee a SWAC Tournament berth for the women's tennis team, who have six conference games remaining on the season.
