Baseball Drops Opening Game of Weekend Series Against Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. __ Alabama A&M baseball was unable to overcome a hot bat from Northwestern State to open their three-game series on Friday, in a 7-0 loss for the Bulldogs at Brown-Stroud Field.

After neither side got on base in the first inning, Northwestern State got on the board after a groundout double play scored the first run of the game. The Demons added another tally later in the frame with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Northwestern State added to its advantage later in the contest, adding a score in the fourth and three off a pair of hits in the sixth.

Alabama A&M's first hit of the contest came courtesy of Bryce Hammonds, who singled up the middle in the top of the eighth inning before a double play on the next at-bat to end the frame. In the bottom half of the eighth, the Demons added their final run of the game with an RBI double, while leaving one stranded.

Tommy Easley and CJ Mervilus earned the other two hits on the day for the Bulldogs, both earning singles. Meanwhile, Jackson Hall (1-1) took his first loss of the season, working the first five innings and allowing four runs on four hits. Roman Sorrell and Tyler Campbell came in for relief.
