NATCHITOCHES, La. __ In the second game of the weekend series, Alabama A&M's baseball team could not cool off a hot-hitting Northwestern State club and dropped a 10-0 decision in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Field.
After two quiet innings to start the game, Northwestern State (8-6) found its rhythm offensively in the third. The Demons posted five runs and five hits in the third and fourth combined. Overall, they accounted for five runs in the first four innings and five more in the last three.
The Bulldogs struggled again at the plate, as
Brycen Hammonds singled to shortstop for the first team hit in the top of the sixth.
Northwestern State got on the board with an RBI single in the third, followed by taking a 2-0 lead in the next inning on a sacrifice fly for another score. Later in the frame, the Demons added a third run on another RBI single, before taking a 5-0 edge on a two-run homer.
The offense continued for Northwestern State in the fifth with a score of a bunt squeeze play, before scoring their final runs in the seventh on a three-run bomb, followed by a bases loaded walk.
Hammonds accounted for the lone hit for the Bulldogs, while center fielder
Mekhi Lloyd also got on base, drawing a walk.
Evan Crenshaw (2-1) earned the start on the mound for A&M and allowed six runs on eight hits.
Dustin Hernandez worked 1.1 innings in relief, while
Terence Sales pitched in the seventh, allowing the final four runs.
