HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __Â Alabama A&M softball went on to win their second straight game on Friday afternoon, as they defeated SWAC foe Mississippi Valley State in five innings, 14-6, at the Bulldog Softball Field in the opening game of the weekend series.

The Delta Devilettes opened the game strong, scoring in the first on an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. They extended their lead to 4-1 after two innings, with a triple to drive in two runs, followed by the final score off an infield error.

Alabama A&M (12-11) got on the board in the bottom half of the second with a huge inning, scoring eight runs on five hits. With the bases loaded,
Faith Cross scored the first run after a pick-off attempt by Mississippi Valley, resulting in a throwing error by the catcher. On the next at-bat,
Imani Mathis drove in Herbranson on a single to right for to cut the deficit to 4-2.

After
Natalie Picado got on base after being hit by a pitch,
Allyson Riches drove in another run after a fly ball to left field was dropped, loading the bases for the second time.
Brooklyn Wallace drove in Mathis and Picado on an RBI double, followed by a three-run homer from
Venice Sanders, her eighth of the season, to put the Bulldogs up 8-4.
Mississippi Valley added runs in the third and fifth, but the Bulldogs continued to stay hot at the plate, as three straight batters hit homers in the fourth, as
Zahria Jones hit a two-run shot, followed by solo bombs form Cross and Hebranson to give A&M a 12-5 lead heading into the fifth.

In the fifth, Sanders drove in pinch runner
Chloe Seaborne after reaching on a fielder's choice, while Jones drove home
Jalia Callaway with a sacrifice fly to right to end the game at 14-6.
The Bulldogs earned 10 hits in the contest, led by Hebranson and Wallace with two each. Sanders led the team with four RBI, while Jones added three in the win.

Paige Scott earned the start in the circle, working a pair of innings and allowing four runs, before
Sydney Hall (4-4) took the win in relief, allowing just two hits and two runs in three innings of work.
