HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Alabama A&M fell to Alabama State and Middle Tennessee State in back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets jumped on the board early with the doubles point, as
Jasmine Boyd and
Yana Dhamija fell 6-4 at No. 1, followed by a 6-1 loss from the pairing of
Alicia Owegi and
Neha Ghare on court three.
Deja Brown and
Camila Ruiz Diaz were trailing 5-2 at the end of doubles play.
The momentum was carried into singles competition, with all four completed games being straight set wins for Alabama State. Brown and Ghare fell 6-0, 6-1 on courts two and four respectively, while Ruiz Diaz fell 6-0, 6-2 on court three. Boyd, Dhamija, and Owegi all went unfinished at the close of play.
A&M then returned home to play against the Blue Raiders in a non-conference match on Sunday, falling 6-1.
The Blue Raiders won the doubles point after winning on all three courts, as Boyd and Dhamija fell 6-1 at No. 1 to start play. The pairings of Brown and Ghare and Owegi and
Ariadna Ondo Cerezo at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
MTSU was first on the scoreboard in singles play as well, as Dhamija fell 6-0, 6-1 at the fourth flight. Brown and Boyd both fell by the same score on the second and first flight, followed by Ghare in the third flight falling 6-4, 6-1.
The Bulldogs earned their only point of the match from Ondo Cerezo defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6. However, the Blue Raiders picked up the final game as
Alicia Owegi fell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5.
