Men’s Tennis Drops Pair of Games Over the Weekend

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ Alabama A&M men's tennis team dropped a pair of games over the weekend, first on the road against Vanderbilt, 7-0, before falling at home on Sunday afternoon nto Jacksonville State, 6-1.

Alabama A&M struggled on Saturday in a non-conference road test against an SEC opponent in Vanderbilt, falling in two doubles matches to start off play.
 
The pairings of N'Tcha Vence and Arnav Pathange along with Chetanna Amadike and Yin Chih Lan both fell in their games 6-1 and 6-2 respectively. While Freddie Lawrence and Divesh Gahlot were trailing 5-1.
 
The Commodores carried their momentum into doubles play, as five of six games were decided in straight sets.
 
N'Tcha and Chih Lan dropped games at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, both by straight sets, before another two straight set losses for Gahlot at court three and Amadike at court four.
 
Panthage forced a third set at court five after taking the second by a score of 6-2, though he eventually dropped the game with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.

After a sweep of Lawrence and Ghalot on court three to start doubles play, the Bulldogs competed well in the final two pairings. Amadike / Chih Lan took home a 6-2 win on the No. 2 flight to even the score, before N'Tcha / Pathange fell 6-4 to give the Gamecocks the doubles point.

The Bulldogs battled hard against the Gamecocks in singles play, forcing three sets in two of six matches. Ntcha, playing at the No. 1 singles position, fought back to force a third set after dropping the first of the match. He eventually fell 5-7, 6-2, 7-10 in three sets. 

Lan and Gahlot, playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions respectively, both fell in straight sets on the day. Lan fell in his pairing 7-5, 6-1, while Gahlot dropped his game 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 4 singles, Amadike pushed his opponent to three sets, falling 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 to make the score 5-0.

Panthange earned the lone singles win for A&M on the day, sweeping his opponent 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, while Lawrence dropped the final two games of the day (6-4, 6-1) at No. 6.

Up Next
The Bulldogs will play their third match in a three-day span on Monday, as they return to play to host Troy on the Alabama A&M campus. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
