Alabama A&M Baseball Takes Series Opener Against Jackson State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M took control of the game early and scored a final two runs in the seventh to take a 6-3 win in the series opener against Jackson State on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Baseball Field.

Six of the nine starting position players recorded a hit, including two apiece from Tommy Easley and Myles Jackson, while Easley, Blake Martin, and Jalen Parker combined for all six RBI in the game.

Tyler Campbell (2-1) got the win for the Bulldogs, pitching for six innings, allowing seven hits and just two runs along with forcing 11 groundouts and five fly balls. Evan Crenshaw earned the save, pitching the remaining three frames, surrendering just three hits and one score.

A&M (12-20) threatened in the early going with a trio of baserunners in the bottom of the first, on one single and two walks, however the opening inning ended with a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the third, as Easley hit a two-run home run to left center following a walk from Mehki Lloyd to open the inning. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth, as the Tigers scored their first run as a result of a pair of hits and an error.

Myles Jackson started the bottom of the fifth with an infield single to third base, before scoring two batters later off a throwing error from the Tigers shortstop.

A half inning later, Jackson State pounded out four consecutive singles, adding a run to cut the lead to 3-2 and followed with a score on a passed ball in the seventh to tie the game.

The Bulldogs struck again in the seventh, as Jackson was hit by a pitch to get on base, followed by two singles to load the bases and a final single to left field from Martin to drive home Jackson and Lloyd for a 5-3 edge. A&M added a run for insurance in the bottom of the eighth, as Chandler Stocking tripled and scored on the next at-bat on an RBI double from Jalen Parker for the 6-3 final.

Game two between the Tigers and Bulldogs is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. back at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
