HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M baseball fell 14-8 to Jackson State in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Saturday afternoon, in a high-scoring contest.
Jackson State opened the scoring in the first, scoring a run on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Tigers got on board again with an error by the infield and added two more in frame off an RBI double and a groundout to second base.

The Tigers took a 6-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the second off three hits and another error in the frame, however Alabama A&M responded to reduce the deficit with three scores in the third.

Shortstop
CJ Mervilus started the third with a single up the middle and was followed by a double from catcher
Jared Tribett and a walk from designated hitter Myles Jackson to load the bases.

On the next at-bat,
Mekhi Lloyd hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home Mervilus, before
Tommy Easley drove in the second score on a groundout to third. The Bulldogs scored the final run of the frame on an RBI single from
Blake Martin to put the score at 6-3 heading into the fourth.

After a pair of runs from Jackson State in the fourth on a two-run homer, A&M cut into the lead again with an RBI single to left field from Tribett and a sac fly from Jackson to score
Chandler Stocking and
Jalen Parker respectively.
The Bulldogs found more offense in the bottom half of the sixth, tying the game 8-8 on a two-out three-run homer to left by Easley.

The tie did not last long, as Jackson State regained the lead in the seventh with four runs on four hits to take control of the game and added two more scores in the ninth for the 14-8 final.

Jackson Hall started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs and faced 10 batters and allowed six runs, yet just one earned.
Gabe Nicholson worked for 4.1 innings in relief, while
Jason Garcia (1-2) picked up the loss.
Dustin Hernandez and
Brett Parker combined to pitch for the final three innings of play.

Mervilus and Tribett led A&M at the plate with two hits each, while Easley drove in four runs, including the three-run shot. Six batters combined for the eight total hits, while seven scored runs, led by Jackson who crossed the plate twice.
The two programs will meet for the series finale on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch at the Bulldog Baseball Field set for 1 p.m.
