JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team fought hard to open the UNF Sunshine Tournament on Friday, falling to host North Alabama, 3-0, and USC-Upstate, 3-1.

Bailey Duckett finished with five kills and five digs in the three-set loss to the Ospreys to open up the UNF Sunshine Tournament. Mackenzie Jefferson tallied a team-high nine assists and six digs.
The Bulldogs registered 22 kills in 93 total attacks, with 28 digs and six block solos. North Florida tallied 38 kills and hit .271. In addition, the Ospreys recorded 48 digs and had six total blocks.
Kierstyn McFall led UNF with seven kills, while Mahalia White and Amy Burkhardt each recorded five kills. Annie Antar and Kelly Negron combined for 29 assists and Rocio Moro registered a team-high 13 digs.
USC Upstate 3, Alabama A&M 0
Scores: 25-13, 25-19, 20-25, 25-14
USC-Upstate (6-5) opened the match with two straight victories, but Alabama A&M (1-11) closed the gap to 2-1 with a third-set victory, before the Spartans captured the fourth set with the win.
Duckett led the way offensively with 19 kills and 13 digs for the double-double. Jefferson added a team-high 14 assists and 14 digs, while Michell Jerez registered 10 digs.
The Bulldogs finished with 41 kills in 136 total attacks, with 60 digs, 35 assists and 5.0 total team blocks. The Spartans recorded 57 kills and hit .248 in the four sets. USC-Upstate tallied 70 digs, 52 assists and 5.0 total team blocks.
Ashleigh Nicoll and Nikki Deslatte combined for 27 kills to pace the Spartans. Kayla Spangler dished out 33 assists. Nicoll added to her double-double with a match-high 21 digs, while Julia Gladhill and Zelasia Edwards had 17 and 12, respectively.
