HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Quincy Casey went 15 of 21 passing in the first half for 246 yards and four touchdowns as the Alabama A&M University football team celebrated its homecoming with a 58-3 thumping of previously undefeated Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon at Louis Crews Stadium.
"I am pleased in all three phases, just not the offense," Alabama A&M head coach Connell Maynor said. "I tell these guys all the time this is a D2 team, we're gonna respect all and fear none. We're going to be ready to take care of us and be ready to play. Offense put up 58 points and defense held them to three points and that came on the opening drive. We blocked a punt and we had some good punt returns. We executed the way we were supposed to."
Casey, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, finished the game by going 17 of 27 passing for 296 yards and five touchdowns. Keenan Hambrick caught five of those passes for 147 yards. The Bulldogs (3-2) scored on six of their first seven possessions of the half in jumping out to the huge lead.
Tuskegee (4-1), which had just three of its 14 drives inside AAMU territory, opened the game with a 64-yard drive but managed just 26 yards more yards in the half and surrendered 44 straight points as Alabama A&M took a commanding 44-3 advantage into the break.
With the win, Alabama A&M extended its home winning streak to six games, which dates back to the 2022 season. In addition, AAMU set a new Louis Crews Stadium record with the listed attendance of 26,391.
Tuskegee received the ball to begin the game and was backed up to its own 10 after a false start penalty. After a timeout, quarterback Bryson Williams connected on a 67-yard pass to Corey Petty, setting TU up at the AMMU 23.
However, the Tuskegee drive stalled as the Golden Tigers settled for a 38-yard Lorcan Ryans field goal with 10:16 remaining in the opening quarter.
Back came Alabama A&M, using more than five minutes off the clock.
The Bulldogs put together a 15-play, 81-yard drive and converted a pair of third downs to grab the 7-3 lead. On 2nd-and-goal from the Tuskegee 9, Quincy Casey connected on a 9-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Gardner.
However, the score was wiped away due to holding. But on the very next play, Casey tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jacolby Hewitt, giving the Bulldogs the lead with 4:39 left.
After a Tuskegee punt, Alabama A&M went right back to work in plus territory.
On the second play of the series, Casey connected on a 28-yard pass to Cameron Young, setting the Bulldogs up at the TU 6. Two plays later, Casey found Hewitt in the right corner for a 5-yard touchdown, giving AAMU a 14-3 lead with 51 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The Bulldogs forced an interception on Tuskegee's next drive as Emari Pait picked off Williams at the AMMU 40.
On the next play Casey found Keenan Hambrick down the left sideline for 40 yards and three plays later, Ryan Morrow found the endzone on a 10-yard touchdown run as Alabama A&M extended its lead to 21-3 with 13:09 left in the half.
After another Golden Tigers punt, it didn't too long for Alabama A&M to find the endzone again as Casey found a wide-open Keenan Hambrick down the right sideline for the 77-yard touchdown strike as the Bulldogs pushed the advantage to 28-3 with just under 11 minutes to play.
The Bulldog defense forced a punt on Tuskegee's next possession and again, AAMY struck for a big play. This time it was the running game that added points as Donovan Eaglin went 46 yards up the middle as Alabama A&M increased its lead to 35-3 with 5:37 remaining.
Even the special teams got into the act as a blocked punt resulted in a safety as AAMU extended its lead to 37-3 with 3:15 left.
After the kickoff, the Bulldogs marched down the field as Casey added to his total in the first half with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Hambrick, completing a 3-play, 41-yard drive as Alabama A&M pushed its lead to 44-3 with 1:36 remaining.
Alabama A&M put the game out of reach by putting together a 7-play, 60-yard drive, taking more than two minutes off the clock as Harold Jemison capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run as the Bulldogs increased their lead to 51-3 with just under five minutes to play in the third quarter.
Much the same in the final quarter for AAMU as Xavier Lankford connected with Braxton Tolliver for a 42-yard touchdown as the Bulldogs added to the lead, 58-3, with 12:35 left.
