Volleyball to Face In-State Rival on Friday Night

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M Volleyball team (5-13, 3-3 SWAC) is set to face in-state rival Alabama State University (6-13, 3-3 SWAC) on Friday, October 18 in Elmore Gymnasium. Fans are encouraged to wear all black, as it is a BLACKOUT match. First serve is set for 7 pm.

The Bulldogs look to continue their homestand win streak after defeating both Jackson State (3-2) and Mississippi Valley State (3-0) this past weekend. Senior Fatima Ramirez led the Bulldogs both offensively and defensively, notching 11 kills, 12 digs, two assists, one block and one service ace in the 3-0 victory over the Delta Devils on Monday night. Following just behind Ramirez was Saldy Amparo-Smith, who recorded 10 terminations, seven digs and two solo blocks. Laela price tallied 13 assists on the night, and led both teams in service aces, with three.

ASU hits the road after facing the Tigers and Devilettes in Montgomery, going 1-1 over the weekend. Though Jackson State swept Alabama State, the team racked up 10 blocks in the match, paced by Essence Jones' 15 terminations. In their sweep over MVSU, the Hornets were led by Alaya Rhodes, who tallied 10 digs, and Taylor Whooten, who recorded nine kills. ASU leads the all-time series with AAMU 23-10.
