NEW ORLEANS| Senior Alisha Wilson notched her third double-double of the season, including a season-high 17 points and 15 rebounds, in the Bulldogs' victory over the University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears on the final day of the Tulane Holiday Tournament. The victory secured the Bulldogs' third place position in the tournament.
Wilson also led the team in steals, recording five stolen balls. Senior Darian Burgin notched double figures for the second consecutive game, adding 11 points, four rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Central Arkansas was led offensively by Leah Mafua and Elizabeth Abiara, who each contributed 12 points. Mafua and Kinley Fisher crashed the boards six times. Jade Upshaw led the Sugar Bears with four assists.
Alabama A&M now moves to 2-1 in the overall series against UCA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wilson opened the contest hot, scoring the first six points for the Bulldogs, highlighted by forcing a turnover and scoring on the other end
- AAMU had an early 6-2 edge, but a 7-2 Sugar Bear run gave UCA the lead entering the media timeout
- Central Arkansas scored four more unanswered points, and a made Free throw from Rittenberry concluded the first frame with UCA ahead 13-9
- The Sugar Bears maintained the lead for the first part of the second frame, earning their largest lead to that point at 17-11
- A pair of jumpers from Wilson and a three-pointer from Burgin brough the Bulldogs back within one
- The Bulldogs ended the half ahead, 24-21 after a 6-0 run from Burgin
- AAMU held a slim six-point lead before a trio of shots from beyond the arc from Finley and Mafua gave the Sugar bears the advantage
- The Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run to go ahead again
- UCA attempted a comeback with five unanswered points, but a pair of AAMU free-throws solidified the third stanza in favor of the Maroon and White (38-37)
- Each team traded points before the Sugar Bears took a 45-41 lead with just under seven minutes remaining
- AAMU went on a 4-0 run of their own to tie the contest ( 5:18)

- AAMU finished the quarter on a trio of free throws, and claimed the 55-52 victory
